PROVO, Utah –
Delaney Gibb delivered a milestone performance to lead BYU into the next round.
Gibb scored 29 points and surpassed 1,000 career points as No. 1 seed BYU rolled past No. 4 seed Missouri 93-75 on Monday night at the Marriott Center to advance to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
The sophomore from Raymond, Alberta, Canada native reached the milestone in just 57 games. She shot 11-of-19 from the field, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range, and added eight rebounds and six assists in a dominant all-around effort.
Gibb recorded her 25th double-figure scoring game of the season and her ninth performance of 20 or more points, continuing her emergence as one of the team’s most consistent offensive threats.
Olivia Hamlin provided a major spark off the bench, scoring 23 points to tie her career high. The freshman has now scored in double figures 24 times this season, including five games with at least 20 points.
Kambree Barber added her third career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, helping BYU control the glass and maintain its advantage throughout the game.
BYU set the tone early and never allowed Missouri to settle in.
The Cougars jumped out to a 28-7 lead after the first quarter, holding the Tigers to just three made field goals while shooting 60% from the field. BYU led for 37 minutes, 51 seconds and consistently pushed the pace on both ends.
Defense was the focus holding Mizzou to under 40% shooting from the floor and under 35% from beyond the arc.
Missouri was unable to recover from the early deficit as BYU maintained a comfortable lead for most of the night.
“With this team, we’re very motivated,” BYU coach Lee Cummard said.
The victory also marked a milestone for Cummard, who tied former coach Jeff Judkins for the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history.
BYU will face No. 2 seed Stanford on Thursday Mar. 26th. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MDT and the game will be on ESPN+.
A win would send the Cougars to the semifinals in Wichita, Kansas, marking the program’s first appearance in that round since the tournament was created three seasons ago.
