BYU’s athletic department has experienced tremendous success in recent years, and the results have shown in the Learfield Directors Cup Rankings where the Cougars rank with the nation’s elite.
The Learfield Directors Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men’s and women’s. Began in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today, it was expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA.
Yahoo! Sports’ Pat Forde compiled a five-year average in the Learfield Cup Rankings for all 65 of the Power Five programs and ranked them. If BYU was added to the mix, where would they rank?
BYU’s last five finishes in the Learfield Cup:
2016-17: 31st
2015-16: 30th
2014-15: 48th
2013-14: 42nd
2012-13: 43rd
Five-year average 38.8
That 38.8 five-year average ranking would place BYU at 35th among Power Five schools. Above the likes of Tennessee, Clemson, TCU, and rival Utah.
